Do you say yes when you really want to say no?

We say yes instead of the what we really want to say which is no. We do this for many reasons.

  • Out of fear (hurting someone’s feelings, fear of angering a boss or co-worker, etc)

  • We want people to like us.

  • To avoid conflict.

  • Putting others before ourselves.

Being authentic means to be honest with ourselves and others. This can be tricky. Sometimes we choose to say yes for reasons other than what we want in the moment. What does this mean to you?

Maybe we say yes to build relationship knowing that it won’t be a habit with that person. Maybe we say yes to compromise. These can be healthy reasons.

It is of utmost importance that we know the reason we are saying yes. The best reason is when it is yes for us and for them.
